Handmade Briar Tobacco Smoking Pipes
Thomas James is a self-taught North American pipemaker who completes every step of the pipe making process
personally. Drawing a sketch of a new pipe is often the first step, while the final stage is hand engraving the nomenclature
"Tj" and stamping a four digit code. Thomas James began stamping his handmade pipes with this code in January of
2010. The last two digits of the code represent the year the pipe came out of the pipeshop, while the first two indicate the
sequential order the pipe was completed in that year.

North American Society of Pipe Collectors host the annual NASPC Pipe Sell and Swap show in Columbus, Ohio.
American pipemaker Thomas James from northwestern Pennsylvania, attended the 2010 pipe event in August and
took a nice selection of his handmade tobacco pipes to display. He offered many new smoking pipe shapes for
sale, including an Oliphant, XL Billiard, Dublin, Freehand Bulldog, Smooth Contrast Egg, Bent Volcano, Rusticated
Nosewarmer, Rough Scoop, and a Wide Billiard, just to name a few of the handcarved pipes displayed. Many of
these pipes were added to the collections of pipe collectors and can now be viewed in the Archived Pipe Gallery.
