| A word from Roy B. Maret, owner of Derby Smoke Shop, March 2010: |

| Relatively new to the world of pipe making, Tom has hit the ground running. I was introduced to Tom at the Chicago Pipe Show in 2009 and was at once awestruck with his craftsmanship. Of course, aesthetics is only a part of what makes a pipe good or bad. How does it smoke ? Tom has managed to achieve success in that area as well. His pipes smoke great from the first bowl. Wonderful designs, great looks, smooth lines, good balance, attention to detail, and extra care in internal engineering ..... all coming together to the end result of a tobacco pipe comparable to one that has been produced by those individuals who have been in the business for many years. Tom is a true artisan. In talking with Tom, it is apparent that he understands what it takes to be successful as a pipe maker. It is his goal to produce a quality product at a fair price that will provide enjoyment to the owner of his work. This understanding is obvious in the pipes that Tom creates. I have now and / or have had pipes by : Bill Ashton-Taylor, Lee Von Erck, Tonni Nielsen, Castello, Paulo Becker, Dunhill, Radice...Ascorti...Caminetto, and many others by both "production" companies as well as small craft shops. I feel confident in making the statement that Tom has stepped through the door to becoming one of the great Pipe Artisans of tomorrow, but he as "arrived" today. Roy Maret Montrose, Colorado |
