2010  Kansas City Pipe Show
There is nothing quite like a hand made pipe in your pipe collection.
Bit detail for handcut volcano stem.
Final finish on stemwork is of utmost importance to pipe artisans.
Smooth rim accents the coated tobacco chamber, where you can see the perfect draft hole drilling.
This hand made briar volcano pipe
represented Thomas James in the North
American pipe carving contest held
during the 2010 GKC Pipe Show. Tom
was happy to attempt the volcano pipe
shape and to also participate in his first
formal pipecarving competition!  The
judges selected seven winners of all
submitted handcarved pipes to create an
original seven day set.  The seven day
pipe set was raffled off the final day of
the show to one lucky pipe smoker!
The Winter 2010 issue of Pipes &
Tobaccos Magazine features
photographs of the winning seven day
set pipes, along with pipe photos of all
submitted entrees and their pipemaker's
name.

Although Thomas James unfortunately could not personally get out to the
2010 Greater Kansas City Pipe Show, one of his handmade briar pipes did!
This rusticated black Volcano was sent overnight delivery to get in the
hands of Quinton Wells before he left his home to head for the KCI-Expo
Center in Kansas City, MO.
